Covid-19 vaccine orders cover 108% of population, says deputy minister

Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Ahmad Amzad Hashim says the government has ordered enough Covid-19 vaccines to cover 108% of Malaysia's population. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Nazir Sufari, March 3, 2021.

ORDERS for Covid-19 vaccines by Malaysia to date have surpassed 108% of the population, said Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Ahmad Amzad Hashim.

In this regard, he said the people need not worry as the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) has provided sufficient doses for everyone in the country.

“My advice to Malaysians now is to register with MySejahtera as the vaccine programme we are providing is enough for people.

“Please wait for your turn… action can be taken against those attempting to cut the queue,” he said after launching MyCar 3.0 application today.

Meanwhile, Amzad said Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has given its assurance that there will be no power supply disruption which can affect the storage of Covid-19 vaccines, especially the Pfizer-BioNTech type, which requires a temperature of -70°C.

He said a discussion was held with TNB last week to ensure an adequate back-up plan against any power failure.

“We do not want what happened in Japan, which I understand 1,000 doses of vaccine were disposed of when electricity supply was suddenly cut off. We hope such an incident would not happen here.

“TNB has provided a list of officers in charge in each area if a power failure occurs,” he said.

In another development, the deputy minister said media organisations can send their applications to the government to be vaccinated as front-liners under phase one.

He said the matter will be discussed at the PICK committee and any decision on the matter will be announced soon. – Bernama, March 3, 2021.
