ONLY two out of 10 Malaysians want Muhyiddin Yassin to be prime minister until the end of his term, an online poll shows.

The poll, conducted by Institut Darul Ehsan (IDE), said only 19% out of the 8,352 respondents believed the 72-year-old should stay until the next elections.

Another 46% said Muhyiddin should resign as prime minister after having lost the majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.

The online poll, conducted from February 19 to 28, also shows that 29% want Muhyiddin to dissolve Parliament for fresh elections while 2% said he should maintain the state of emergency to remain in power.

According to IDE, the strongest sentiments that he should resign came from those aged 50 and above.

“The sentiments were strongest among those aged above 66 at 64% while 47% in the 60-65-year-old group wanted him to resign before the next elections.

“The sentiment for him to quit was around 57% in the 50-59-year-old group,” IDE said in a statement today.

Only 39% and 42% of the respondents in the 21-29 and 30-39 age groups want him to quit, said IDE.

IDE said the sentiments for him to quit are strongest among the Chinese (57%) and Indians (58%) while only 41% of the Malays felt that he should resign.

IDE is an electoral think-tank linked to the Pakatan Harapan government in Selangor.

  • If the survey done by IDE (think thank linked to Pakatan govt in Selangor) rejects Muhyiddin as the PM, then who will replace him? Is it Anwar?

  • 2 out of 10 = 20%. That number seems to ridiculously high.... All UMNO, PAS, PKR and DAP voters do not like him.. That itself 90% of the voters in Malaysia.. Yup.. 20% is too high for Muhyuddin.
