POLICE today nabbed two suspects who were among a dozen men who attacked a restaurant at closing time yesterday night in Little India, Brickfields, after the staff refused to serve them.

The group of 12 men, believed to be intoxicated, had turned up at Sri Paandi Restaurant about 10.15pm and asked for food.

They started beating the workers and smashing up the premises after they were offered takeaway service as the restaurant was closed in compliance with the MCO.

Restaurant owner Kumar Alagarsamy told The Malaysian Insight one of his employees was injured in the back of his head which required seven stitches. Two others suffered minor injuries. All three were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

“The suspects had damaged tables, chairs and the display cabinets. They also took my staff’s jewellery,” said Kumar.

He said he suffered RM20,000 in property damage.

In his police report, Kumar also said the suspects took out parang and sticks from their vehicles when the fight broke out between them and the restaurant staff.

The incident was captured on video and the clip has gone viral.

Brickfields police chief Anuar Omar said two suspects were arrested and police were looking for several others to assist in the investigation.

Brickfields Business Council president Bharat Maniam said it was an isolated incident.

“Little India is pretty safe as there is police presence,” he said.

Brickfields Rukun Tetangga chairman S.K.K Naidu, however, urged police to step up patrols in the neighbourhood.

“There was another fight which broke out in nearby Jalan Berhala where the suspects were said to be intoxicated,” Naidu said, adding that the authorities should check on illegal liquor shops in the area. – March 1, 2021.
