Total Covid-19 cases pass 300,000 mark

MALAYSIA surpassed the 300,000 mark in cumulative Covid-19 cases today after 2,437 new infections were recorded.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of cases since the onset of the pandemic is 300,752.

However, the new cases today were outnumbered by 3,251 new recoveries, putting total recoveries at 273,417. 

Nine new deaths were also reported, raising the death toll to 1,130. 

The latest figures show that Malaysia recorded 100,000 cases each in January and February alone, in contrast to the same number of cases detected over the span of the last year.

There are currently 24,505 active cases, of which 202 patients are in the intensive care unit, with 93 requiring respiratory support.

On the nine deaths, Noor Hisham said they were in several states, namely Selangor (3), Sarawak (2), Malacca (1), Kelantan (1), Perak (1) and Johor (1). 

The oldest death was of a 102-year-old woman in Johor whose medical history is unknown. 

The other deceased were between the ages of 57 and 88; all of whom had comorbidities.

By state, Selangor continues to report the highest number of daily cases, with 914 today, followed by Johor (340) and Kuala Lumpur (337). 

Labuan and Putrajaya recorded single-digit new infections, with two and three cases respectively.

Perlis was the only state to not report a single new infection. – February 28, 2021.
