ISLAMIC scholars around the world, including from Mecca, have okayed Covid-19 vaccination, so there is no reason for Muslims to reject it, said Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.

The minister in charge of Islamic affairs said feedback from those who had already taken the vaccine from other countries has been positive.

“This Covid-19 is not only taking place in Malaysia but the entire world. Even the ulama in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and many more other countries have taken it.

“To those who say the vaccine is not good, they have to do further research and realise how crucial the vaccine is.

“Taking vaccines is not only to ensure you are safe but also your loved ones and the people of this country,” he said after taking his Covid-19 vaccine jab at Putrajaya District Health Office today.

Zulkifli had previously said Malaysia has obtained the views and explanations of the world’s leading Muslim scholars on the fatwa of receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

He said he had sent letters to several scholars over the matter, including the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, Egypt Mufti Shawki Allam and Chairman of the Fatwa Council of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah Ben Bayyah.

“On average, they issued a fatwa of referring to the experts (in health) to ensure that this vaccine (Covid-19 vaccine) is safe and halal to use.”

Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Dr Ronald Kiandee was also present at Putrajaya Health Office today to receive his Covid-19 vaccine.– February 26, 2021.
