7 of 8 new Covid-19 clusters linked to workplaces

Seven out of eight Covid-19 clusters today are linked to workplaces, says director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, February 22, 2021.

SEVEN workplaces and one community-based Covid-19 cluster were identified by the Health Ministry in the past 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.  

The director-general of health said 278 cases were identified in the clusters reported today, with 218 from workplaces.  

Noor Hisham said of the seven workplace clusters, three were reported in Selangor and one each was reported in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Sarawak and Negri Sembilan. 

He said the sole community-based cluster was traced in Sarawak. 

Noor Hisham saidof the workplace clusters, the Industri Sg Gadut cluster identified at a factory in Negri Sembilan contributed the most cases with 65 people testing positive. 

He said in Selangor, the three clusters contributed to an overall 65 cases, where the Lombong Timah construction site cluster alone reported 45 cases. 

The director-general said the other two clusters in Selangor – Jalan Kota construction site and Pasar Jalan Putra – reported 11 and nine cases respectively. 

Noor Hisham said in Kuala Lumpur, the Sg Batu construction site cluster reported 25 cases.  

He said the other workplaces cluster reported today, Sg Bakong in Sarawak logged 22 cases and Hilir Sg Kluang in Penang recorded 41 cases.  

He said the single community-based cluster in Sarawak was dubbed Emperoh Jambu. 

Noor Hisham said this cluster was traced after the community attended a funeral between February 3 and 5. 

He said 60 cases so far have been traced here.  

He said the eight new clusters today bring the total clusters in the country to 1,082, with 504 of them still active.  

Of those active clusters, 99 are still reporting new cases.  

Noor Hisham said clusters reporting high cases today are Sg Putus with 186 cases, Jalan Pantai construction site (62) and Jalan Cochrane (54). 

A total of 14 clusters ended today, taking the total clusters to conclude to 578. – February 22, 2021.
