Selangor tops nation’s Covid-19 cases

Selangor regained top spot in Covid-19 infections today, logging 910 cases against Perak’s 148. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Hasnoor Hussain, February 22, 2021.

MALAYSIA today reported 2,192 new Covid-19 infections, taking the national caseload to 285,761, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said that after Perak topped cases by state yesterday, Selangor once again regained top spot today by contributing the highest cases by state.  

He said Selangor contributed 910 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 303 and Sarawak with 221.  

He said Perak, which topped the infection chart yesterday, recorded 148 cases today.  

Noor Hisham said Labuan was the only state to report zero cases today.

He said of the new cases today, 2,189 were local transmission, while three were imported.  

Besides this, Noor Hisham said the country recorded 3,414 recoveries today.  

He said since the number of recoveries outpaced new infections today, the active cases dropped to 32,076. 

Noor Hisham said 199 are being treated in intensive care, with 91 of them requiring respiratory support.

He said the country reported six fatalities today, taking the death toll to 1,062. – February 22, 2021.
