All six Covid-19 clusters today linked to workplaces

ALL six new Covid-19 clusters identified today were linked to workplaces, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said five of the new clusters were identified in Johor and one in Penang.

He said these clusters contributed 127 cases.

Noor Hisham said three clusters in Johor were in Johor Baru – Jalan Cemerlang Besi, Jalan Pandan Ria and Jalan Persiaran Cemerlang clusters.

The Jalan Pandan Ria cluster was traced at a cleaning company in Jalan Kangkar while the other two were traced to factories.

As of today, Jalan Cemerlang Besi has recorded 31 cases and Jalan Persiaran Cemerlang reported 12 cases, while Jalan Pandan Ria had 12 cases.

The other two clusters in Johor were Jalan Kota Kulai (31 cases) detected at Kulai and Jalan Kelapa Mawar (16 cases) detected at Batu Pahat.

The Perusahaan Baru cluster in Penang reported 24 cases and involves a factory in Seberang Perai Tengah.

The six new clusters bring the total clusters in the country to 1,074. 

Of them, 510 are still active and 82 still reporting new cases.

Clusters reporting high cases today were Jalan Changkat Jong with 1,046 cases, Industri Selesa (171 cases) and Tanjung Suria (97 cases).

Noor Hisham said the Jalan Changkat Jong – a workplace cluster involving Hilir Perak and Perak Tengah – was the main reason for the spike in cases in Perak today, which reported 1,215 cases.

Noor Hisham said that six clusters ended today, bringing the number of clusters to conclude in the country to 564. – February 21, 2021.
