Active cases on the downtrend, Covid-19 recoveries outnumber new infections

THE number of active Covid-19 cases are on a decline while daily recoveries outnumber new cases.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 36,797 active cases as of 12pm today, down from the 38,764 reported a day earlier.

There has been a downtrend in active cases since February 13, whereby the number of active infections which then stood at 51,558 are now down to 36,797.

Recoveries continued to outnumber new Covid-19 cases after 4,889 were discharged in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total number of recoveries from the virus is now 239,971.

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 2,936 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.

The fresh cases raise the caseload to 277,811.

Selangor topped the daily tally with 978 cases followed by Johor and Kuala Lumpur with 730 and 227 cases respectively.

Meanwhile, 13 new deaths were also reported, bringing the death toll to 1,043.

Noor Hisham said 220 patients are currently warded at the Intensive Care Unit, of whom 104 require respiratory support. – February 19, 2021.
