THREE more houses have been destroyed following the Sungai Kelantan bank landslide near Dataran Air Muleh, Kg Jalan Pohon Chelagi, Pasir Mas, yesterday.
Pasir Mas Fire and Rescue Station chief Shapawi Stapa said so far, 98 residents from 45 families have been evacuated.
“To date, four houses have been destroyed and the latest was at 9pm yesterday.
“Two more houses are on the verge of collapsing as ground movements are still active,” he told reporters when met at the scene here today.
Shapawi said the area affected by the landslide had increased by another 3m since yesterday evening and a Perodua Myvi car was also damaged by the rubble.
“The authorities will continue to monitor the situation. All those living in the landslide prone area have been instructed to move to a safe place,” he said, adding that most were staying at their relatives’ homes for the moment.
Meanwhile, a Bernama check at the site found new cracks developing on the road near the scene and security control at the location has tightened to prevent people from coming near the affected area.
Agencies including the Public Works Department and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage have sent personnel to the scene. – Bernama, February 18, 2021.
