ROSMAH Mansor is emotionally upset and distressed following the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision to order her to enter her defence for all three corruption charges, said her lawyer Jagjit Singh.
“We had to comfort her. We’ve told her to go back and relax,” he told reporters at the court lobby today.
He also said the defence team was contemplating calling in Rosmah’s husband Najib Razak as a potential witness.
Jagjit added that they were looking at calling in five witnesses in all for the defence.
He also said their defence would be exactly what they put forth during their cross examination of prosecution witnesses.
“For the first charge, there was no solicitation by her. It was all done by a third party who was name dropping. And he has admitted being a corrupt person.
“For the second charge, we have established the money was never received by her. It was all accepted by Rizal Mansor,” he said.
He also said the defence team was saddened by the court’s decision today.
“To say that we are disappointed is an understatement. His lordship has given his call for defence but without giving reasons.
“We don’t really know the thinking of the court. In leading the defence, we have to now speculate as to what did his lordship consider as maximum evaluation in calling for a defence and saying there is a prima facie case.
“This is what we are extremely concerned about, but we will do our best. We have to bow to his ruling. We have to respect that,” said Jagjit.
Earlier this morning, justice Mohamed Zaini Mazlan ordered Rosmah to enter her defence for all three corruption charges related to the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.
He said the prosecution had proven a prima facie case against Rosmah.
“On the maximum evaluation of the evidence, I find the prosecution has established a prima facie case on all charges,” said Zaini.
Rosmah, 69, clad in yellow baju kurung, appeared calm when the decision was read.
She is accused of soliciting RM187.5 million as an inducement to help the company secure the solar hybrid project in Sarawak and receiving bribes totalling RM6.5 million in 2016 and 2017.
The court has fixed nine days for the defence case, on June 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 as well as July 12 and 15. – February 18, 2021.
