10 out of 13 new virus clusters today from workplaces

HEALTH authorities detected 13 new clusters today, with 10 of them linked to workplaces, said Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

They involved factories or construction sites where targeted screening of workers were carried out.

Of the non-workplace clusters, one is community-linked and involved a residential area, while the other two involved people in a high-risk group from care centres.

The new clusters bring the total number of active clusters to 499, while the cumulative number of clusters is 1,028.

Noor Hisham said the new clusters were mostly in Selangor (5) and Johor (4), and one each in Terengganu, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, and Sarawak. 

The recorded clusters today bring the total number of clusters to 1,028 since the onset of the pandemic.

Another 13 clusters had ceased to be active today. 

Meanwhile, each of the three non-workplace clusters were reported in Selangor, Johor, and Sarawak.

The one in Selangor is the Jalan DC cluster, at a care centre in Desa Coalfields in Sg Buloh, where the index case was found positive two days ago. To date, 13 people are infected.

The one in Johor is the Jalan Payamanis cluster which also involves a care centre in Johor Baru and high-risk individuals. The cluster has 39 positive cases out of 254 people screened. 

The Jan Yong cluster is a community-linked cluster in Sg Yong, Kapit, Sarawak, where the index case was reported positive on February 17 through close-contact screening. A total of 15 people are infected. – February 17, 2021.
