11 Covid-19 clusters reported, 9 linked to workplaces

Nine out of 11 virus clusters recorded today are linked to workplaces, says director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Nazir Sufari, February 14, 2021.

ELEVEN new Covid-19 clusters were detected by health authorities in the last 24 hours, with nine of them linked to workplaces, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.  

The director-general of health said that Johor reported the most workplace clusters today with five, followed by Selangor with three and Kedah with one.  

The other two clusters reported today were community- and religious-based.  

Noor Hisham said a total of 510 cases were reported from the 11 new clusters, with workplace clusters alone contributing 450 cases.

The Jalan Istimewa Cemerlang cluster, reported at a factory in Johor Baru, contributed 109 cases – the highest among the clusters reported today.  

Noor Hisham said the other workplace clusters reported in Johor are Batu 57 (13 cases), Jalan Usaha Satu (70), Jalan Tebrau Khas (29) and Jalan Persiaran Teknologi Kulai (45).  

He said three clusters in Selangor that contributed to a cumulative 103 cases are Jalan Setia construction site (36 cases), Jalan Jelatek (35) and Jalan Sepuluh (32). 

The sole workplace cluster identified in Kedah was dubbed Ria Jaya.  

Noor Hisham said this cluster, detected at a factory in Taman Ria Jaya Light Industrial Park, Sg Petani, reported 81 cases.  

Besides them, Patikang Ulu is the community-based cluster reported in Sabah.  

This cluster reported 37 cases and was caused by a meeting among the community.  

The final cluster reported today is Jalan Badak, found in Perak – with 23 cases reported in the religious cluster. 

Malaysia has so far reported 983 clusters, including the 11 new additions today.  

Of them, 484 are still active and 64 still reporting new cases as of today.  

Besides Jalan Istimewa Cemerlang and Jalan Usaha Satu, one other cluster that reported high cases today was Pasai with 65 cases.  

Noor Hisham said 10 clusters were brought to an end today, taking the total clusters to conclude to 499. – February 14, 2021.
