MALAYSIA reported almost double the number of recoveries today as the nation reported 4,525 recoveries against 2,464 new infections in the last 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said the number of recoveries reported today is also a record for the country, with the previous high 4,522 recoveries reported on January 31.

This would be the fourth straight day that the number of recoveries has outpaced new infections.

Since the country reported more recoveries today, the number of active cases dropped to 49,490, with 260 admitted in the intensive care unit and 111 requiring respiratory support.

Elaborating on the number of new infections, Noor Hisham said 2,461 were local transmissions, while three were imported.

Noor Hisham said of the 2,461 local transmissions, 1,705 involved Malaysians and 756 were foreigners.

The three imported cases involved two locals and one foreigner.

Selangor once again contributed the highest number of cases at 1,103, followed by Johor with 492.

Sarawak broke into the top three states recording high cases today at 161.

Perlis, on the other hand, did not report any cases.

Among the overall cases, Selangor topped with 86,943 cases, followed by Sabah with 51,332 and Kuala Lumpur with 31,822.

Beside this, Noor Hisham said there were seven deaths reported today, taking the fatalities toll to 965.

He said all victims today were Malaysians.
