9 of 10 new clusters linked to workplaces

Malaysia logged 10 new virus clusters today, bringing the total to 972 – 28 shy off the 1,000 mark. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Hasnoor Hussain, February 13, 2021.

THE Health Ministry identified 10 new Covid-19 clusters in the last 24 hours, with nine linked to workplaces, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.  

Breaking down the workplace clusters by states, the director-general of health said three were detected in Johor, two each in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, and one each in Negri Sembilan and Terengganu.  

Noor Hisham said the only other cluster not linked to the workplace was detected in Kuala Lumpur – a high-risk group cluster.  

A total of 924 cases were identified in the clusters reported today, of which the workplace-related clusters contributed 898, or 97% of total cases.  

Noor Hisham said the Persiaran Synergi Utama cluster, detected at a factory in Senai, Johor contributed the highest number of cases today with 220 cases.  

There were three other workplace clusters that reported more than 100 cases – Lorong Peel construction site (187 cases), Jalil Bina construction site (123) – both in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, and Lebuh Keluli cluster (132), which spreads over the districts of Klang, Petaling and Kuala Langat in Selangor.  

The other two workplace cluster reported in Johor today are Jalan i-Park Satu and Jalan Lengkok Satu. 

Jalan i-Park Satu cluster, detected at a factory, reported 80 cases, spreading over Kulai and Johor Baru, and Jalan Lengkok Satu cluster, involving the Johor Baru district, reported 64 cases. 

The other clusters reported today are Persiaran Bunga Tanjung in Negri Sembilan (55 cases); Bukit Tengah, Terengganu (22), and Industri Selesa, Selangor (15).  

The only cluster that involved a high-risk group was spread over the districts of Lembah Pantai, Titiwangsa, Cheras and Kepong, and Petaling district in Selangor.  

This cluster involves a medical centre in Jaan Tun Razak and to date, 26 people of 884 screened have tested positive for Covid-19.

The 10 new groups of cases today bring the total number of clusters in the country to 972 – 28 shy of the 1,000 mark. 

Of these, 483 clusters are still active and 85 of them are reporting new cases.  

Besides the Persiaran Synergi Utama and Lorong Peel construction site clusters reported today, the other cluster that detected a high number of cases in the last 24 hours is Sg Putus with 271 cases.  

Eleven clusters ended today, bringing the total number of clusters that have closed to 489. – February 13, 2021.
