RECOVERIES outpaced new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia today as the nation reported 3,515 recoveries against 3,499 new infections in the last 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Besides this, the director-general of health said after 16 straight days, the nation reported single-digit deaths today – five – all of whom are Malaysians.

This also would be the lowest death count in the last past 25 days – with Malaysia last reporting four deaths on January 18, 2021.

Noor Hisham said of today’s new cases, one was imported while the rest were local transmissions.

“The sole imported case involved a local.

“Out of the 3,498 local transmissions, 1,871 involved Malaysians and 1,627 were foreigners,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

Once again, for the 17th consecutive day, Selangor reported the highest case by state with 1,345 cases.

Johor followed with 802 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 511.

Johor is fast approaching to break into the top three of overall cases, as the southern state has now reported 30,345 cases.

Noor Hisham said the number of active cases as of today stands at 51,558.

A total of 263 are admitted in the intensive care unit, with 118 of them on respiratory support.

Elaborating on the fatalities for today, Noor Hisham said two deaths were reported in Selangor and one each in Sabah, Johor and Terengganu.

The sole female victim, aged 60, succumbed to the illness in Terengganu. She had underlying medical conditions of diabetes, high blood pressure, liver cirrhosis and primary aldosteronism.
