All non-Muslim houses of worship allowed to open

NON-MUSLIM houses of worship in the country have been allowed to reopen under the movement-control order (MCO), said the National Unity Ministry.

The government said that the places of worship have been allowed to open effective immediately until February 18.  

The National Security Council chaired by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has allowed the premises to open under strict standard operating procedure (SOP).  

The places of worship must adhere to SOP such as ensuring the number of devotees in attendance does not exceed 30 people at any one time. 

“Sanitation work must be carried out 30 minutes before and after religious activities or prayers. 

“The use of MySejahtera for record purposes in areas with extensive internet coverage. Those who are 60 years old and above and do not have a smartphone will be exempted,” it said in a statement. 

Chinese temples and churches are allowed to operate from 6am-2pm, while Hindu temples are allowed two sessions from 6am-10am and 6pm-9pm. 

As for the gurdwara, they are allowed to operate from 6am-9am. 

The Unity Ministry said the application of the SOP is subject to the approval of the National Security Council. 

The ministry also advised all devotees nationwide to comply with the SOP to help curb the spread of the virus. – February 13, 2021.
