Selangor tops tally, but recoveries outpace new cases

SELANGOR accounted for more than a third of the 3,318 Covid-19 cases reported in the past 24 hours.

Malaysia also reported 17 fatalities, bringing the death toll to 953.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 258,306 people in Malaysia have been infected with the virus, while 51,579 are still being treated or isolated.

Selangor registered 1,214 cases today, followed by Johor with 742 and Kuala Lumpur with 374.

Only seven of today’s cases were imported.

Dr Noor Hisham said 3,505 people were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the total recoveries to 205,774.

Of those being treated for Covid-19,  258 are in intensive care, with 119 needing respiratory support.

Prison and construction site clusters reported 37 cases.

The oldest person to die of the coronavirus today was a 91-year-old man who suffered from heart problem and cancer, while the youngest  was a 54-year-old man who had a history of high blood pressure, dyslipedimia and lung fibrosis. – February 12, 2021.
