Coronavirus cases again top 3,000, with 14 deaths

COVID-19 infections in Malaysia increased by more than 3,000 cases today after dropping to 2,764 yesterday

Fourteen people died of the virus in the past 24 hours. The death toll is now 923.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 3,288 new cases took the country’s caseload to 251,604.

The number of active cases have risen to 52,186.

“Of the 3,283 local transmissions, 1,889 are locals and 1,394 are foreigners.

“As for the five imported cases, three are locals and two are foreigners,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

Selangor was again the top contributor with 1,757 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (408) and Johor (369).

Overall, Selangor has logged the most cases with 82,199, followed by Sabah (50,855) and Kuala Lumpur (30,348).

Noor Hisham said 1,929 patients recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 198,495

There are 285 patients in intensive care, 131 of them requiring respiratory support.

The 14 deaths reported today were all Malaysians.

Eleven of them were men. Twelve of them had underlying medical conditions. 

The oldest was 94 and had asthma, in Sabah, while the youngest, aged 36, died in Kuala Lumpur.  – February 10, 2021.
