10 new clusters, 6 linked to workplace

THE Health Ministry identified 10 new Covid-19 clusters today, taking the total number of clusters in the country to 861, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

Six of the new clusters, with a total 210 cases, were linked to the workplace. Four clusters, with 51 cases, were community-based.
 
Three of the workplace clusters were in Selangor.

The Jalan Industri Rawang cluster in Gombak reported 23 cases, after 156 people were screened at a factory in Rawang Integrated Industrial Park.
 
The Jalan Gombak cluster involves the students and staff of a tertiary institution. As of today, 1,110 people have been screened and 41 found to be infected. The cluster has spread to Sepang, Petaling and Hulu Langat in Selangor and to Cheras in Kuala Lumpur. 
 
Two factories in Bukit Beruntung Industrial Area, Hulu Selangor, reported 61 infections after 1,664 people were screened.

In Muar, Johor, the Parit Penyengat cluster of 34 cases stemmed from a factory worker’s hostel. So far, 572 people have been screened.

In Sarawak, a public administration centre in Jalan Pengiran, Matu, yielded 20 cases, after 113 people were screened.

The sixth workplace cluster is Negri Sembilan. Known as the Permata Satu cluster, it has reported 31 cases after 532 people were screened at a factory in the Arab Malaysia Industrial Park, Nilai.

Meanwhile, Johor and Pahang are each home to two of the four community-based clusters reported today.

Fifteen cases were reported in the Kampung Lukut cluster, named after the index case’s address, in Kota Tinggi.  Also in the same district, Jalan Jelutong logged seven cases after 54 people were screened.

In Maran, a social event in Rantau Tanjung, led to 14 infections after 21 people were screened. In Pekan,  the Kampung Pulau Jawa has 16 cases, from 37 people screened.
 
The country now has 421 active clusters, 90 of which reported new cases today.

Clusters reporting the highest number of cases today were Persiaran Perkilangan with 362 cases, Industry Serkam (201) and Jalan Perindustrian (150).

The Desa Setapak cluster was resolved today, taking the total number of cluster closures to 440.  – February 4, 2021.
