AFTER three consecutive days of reporting more than 5,000 Covid-19 cases, Malaysia today logged 4,214 new infections in the past 24-hours, said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Of the day’s new cases, 4,205 were local transmissions while nine were imported.
“Of the local cases, 2,645 involved Malaysians and 1,590 were foreigners.
“As for the nine imported cases, only one was a foreigner,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.
The number of new cases today brought the total caseload in the country to 219,173.
Ten deaths were also recorded today, taking total fatalities to 770.
Three deaths were in Negeri Sembilan, and one each in Johor, Selangor, Labuan, Sarawak, Perak, Malacca and Terengganu.
Eight of the ten victims today had underlying medical conditions, while the two oldest victims, a female aged 87 and a male aged 80 had no past medical history.
The youngest fatality today was a 26-year-old Malaysian male with obesity issues.
On the spread of new cases today, Selangor yet again reported the highest cases by state with 1,362, followed by Johor with 1,068 and Kuala Lumpur, 702.
Selangor, Johor and Kuala Lumpur have occupied the top three spots in terms of cases by state for three straight days.
On recoveries, 4,280 patients were discharged from hospital today, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 170, 329.
Active cases are currently at 48,074. – February 1, 2021.
