12 new Covid-19 clusters, 10 linked to workplaces

TEN of 12 new Covid-19 clusters identified by the Health Ministry today involve workplaces, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said Johor reported the highest number of workplace clusters with five, followed by Selangor and Kuala Lumpur with two and Sabah with one.

The other two clusters identified today are community-related, and they were traced in Sabah and Sarawak. 

He said 319 cases were reported from the 12 clusters, where the 10 workplace-related clusters contributed to 266 cases.

The first workplace cluster reported today is Persiaran Subang, which spreads over the districts of Klang and Petaling. 

He said this cluster involves a factory and to date, 509 have been screened, of which 16 have tested positive for Covid-19.

Noor Hisham said the second workplace cluster is Indah Industry, detected at a factory in the Klang district. 

As of today, 87 people were screened here and 47 of tested positive. 

The Jalan Klang construction site cluster is the third workplace cluster detected at Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur. 

Out of 370 individuals screened at this cluster, the results of 50 returned positive. 

He said the Jalan Vista construction site cluster is the other workplace cluster detected in Kuala Lumpur, which involves the Cheras district. 

The health director-general said 494 people were screened here and to date, 47 tested positive for coronavirus. 

He said the fifth and sole workplace cluster in Sabah involves staff at a public administrative centre.

Eighty individuals were screened and 12 were positive for Covid-19.

Noor Hisham said the sixth workplace cluster and the first in Johor is Jalan Kota Burok, a cluster detected in Muar, Johor. 

Fifty-one people were screened at this cluster, which involves factory workers and 30 of them tested positive for Covid-19. 

He said the next cluster identified in Segamat, Johor is Jalan By Pass, which involves a public training institute. 

The health director-general said 103 people were screened here and results of 23 were positive.

The Jalan Bistari Dua cluster was detected in the Johor Baru, Johor. 

This cluster involves a factory in Skudai and to date, 17 of 55 individuals screened were positive for Covid-19. 

Noor Hisham said the ninth workplace cluster, Jalan Empayar, that involves a factory, was detected in Johor Baru, Johor. 

Among the 74 people screened in this cluster, 18 were found to be positive for coronavirus. 

The 10th and last workplace cluster in Johor, Jalan Rusa Scientex, was also detected in the Johor Baru district. 

This cluster involves a supermarket in Jalan Rusa, Taman Scientex, in Pasir Gudang. 

He said 120 people were screened here and the results of six returned Covid-19 positive. 

Noor Hisham said the two community-related clusters reported today are Tinanom and Tabong. 

The Tinanom cluster was identified in Kampong Tinanom, Ranau, Sabah. 

To date, 65 people had been screened here and 46 tested positive for Covid-19. 

The final cluster reported today is Tabong, detected in Jalan Tabong, Kampung Apar Singai, Bau, Sarawak. 

Out of the 74 people screened in this locality, the ministry traced seven positive cases. 

With the 12 new Covid-19 clusters identified today, the total number of clusters in the country has risen to 791, of which 375 are still active and 89 have reported new cases. 

Clusters that reported a high number of cases today are Tanjung Suria with 385 cases, followed by the Jalan Harapan Prison cluster (224) and Jalan Sungai Jelok prison (116).

A total of nine clusters ended today, taking the total number of clusters to have concluded in the country to 416. β€“ January 29, 2021.
