MALAYSIA today logged its all-time high of Covid-19 cases with 5,725 new infections in the past 24 hours, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Noor Hisham said the latest cases raised the nation’s caseload to 203,933.
Of today’s cases, Selangor reported 3,126 cases or 54% of today’s total infections, the highest ever a state had recorded to date.
Kuala Lumpur and Johor follow in the top-three state tally with 687 and 684 cases respectively.
Noor Hisham said that of today’s cases, 5,718 were local transmissions and seven were imported.
He said this would be the 16th consecutive day that Malaysia has logged more than 3,000 daily cases.
Noor Hisham added that 3,423 patients were discharged from hospitals. The number of active cases in the country is now 45,478.
Of them, 301 patients were admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 115 of them required respiratory assistance.
He said 16 fatalities were reported today – all of them locals – taking the death toll in the country to 733.
The number of fatalities today is tied-second, with the highest reported on January 22, where 18 succumbed to the illness. – January 29, 2021.
