THE Health Ministry identified a record number 17 new Covid-19 clusters today, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The Health Ministry Director-General said 15 of the 17 new clusters were workplace related.
A total of 1,130 cases were recorded in the new clusters reported today, of which the workplace clusters alone accounted for 1,076 cases, or 95% of the overall cases in these clusters.
Six workplace clusters were reported in Johor, four in Kuala Lumpur, three in Selangor and one each in Sabah and Perak.
Noor Hisham said that the first cluster reported today was Parit Lanjut, which involved factory workers in the district of Muar, Johor.
From 1,451 individuals screened, 547 people were tested positive for the virus.
The Grisek Industry cluster is the second workplace cluster that involves factory workers in the districts of Tangkak and Muar in Johor.
As of today, 537 people were screened here and 145 are positive.
Jalan Trus is the third workplace cluster detected in Johor, which spreads across the districts of Johor Bahru and Kluang.
This cluster involves a staff of a public administration centre. To date, 10 people are positive out of 77 screened.
Another workplace cluster in Johor, in the Johor Bahru district, is Jalan Medini.
A service-related company is involved with 13 cases out of 291 screened.
The next workplace cluster in Johor is Tenga Tengah, detected among factory workers in the district of Kluang.
From 78 people screened, nine are positive.
The Pengerang Utara cluster in Kota Tinggi is the sixth and last cluster detected in the southern state.
This cluster involves employees of a service-related company. To date, 26 are positive out of 235 who were screened.
The Persiaran Tecoma construction site cluster in Kepong is the first cluster reported in Kuala Lumpur today, where 157 are positive out of 376 screened.
Another workplace cluster in Kuala Lumpur is Jalan Danau, detected among security guards, which has 11 cases.
The third workplace-related cluster in Kuala Lumpur is Jalan Yahya in the district of Titiwangsa, involving staff and students of a training institute. Eight are positive out of 100 people screened.
The last workplace cluster detected in Kuala Lumpur is Jalan Pudu, which involves students at a training centre.
Thirteen cases have been identified here from 151 screened.
In Selangor, the Jalan Mutiara workplace cluster was detected in the Petaling district involving security guards at Mutiara Damansara. All 32 people screened so far were found positive.
The Tanjung construction site cluster in Kuala Langat is also a workplace cluster where 46 are positive out of 1,252 screened.
The final workplace cluster in Selangor, which spreads over the districts of Petaling and Klang, is the Persiaran Perkilangan cluster, involving a factory.
As of today, 2,121 people were screened and 19 are positive.
In Sabah, the Jalan Sulaman workplace involves supermarket employees in Kota Kinabalu, where 23 people are positive.
The last workplace cluster detected today is Jalan Seri in Kinta, Perak, involving the staff of a public administration centre. Of 24 people screened, 17 people are positive,
Remaining clusters that are not classified as workplace related are Jalan Pangkalan, described as “community-linked”, which involves the district of Kinta, Kerian and Kampar, in Perak.
A total of 41 cases were detected here from 104 screened.
The final new cluster, also community-linked, is the Bedayan cluster, involving the districts of Serian and Samarahan in Sarawak.
This cluster involved several social events and has 13 cases out of 112 screened.
The 17 new clusters reported today bring the total number of clusters in the country to 770, of which 366 are still active.
Of those active, 80 reported new cases today, with the highest being Parit Lanjut (521 cases), Persiaran Tecoma cluster (157 cases) and Grisek Industry cluster (144 cases).
Seven clusters were declared inactive today, taking the total number of clusters to have ended to 404. – January 27, 2021.
