MALAYSIA reported 3,680 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours, with Johor having the highest number of new infections, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The southern state recorded 1,069 cases today, ending Selangor’s five-day streak of contributing the highest cases by state.
Selangor recorded 822 cases today while Kuala Lumpur was the third highest with 698 cases.
On overall cases by state, Selangor still topped the list with 57,486 cases, followed by Sabah with 47, 737 and Kuala Lumpur with 22,973.
Noor Hisham also said there were 1,858 recoveries today, ending the four-day stretch of recoveries outpacing new infections.
Noor Hisham said of the new cases, 3,674 were local transmissions and the rest imported.
“Of the local transmissions, 2,384 were Malaysians and 1,290 were foreigners.
“For the six imported cases, four were Malaysians and two were foreigners,” he said in a statement.
The country’s caseload is now at 194,114 while active cases are at 42,389.
A total of 314 patients are admitted in the intensive care unit, with 122 of them requiring respiratory support.
Malaysia also reported seven fatalities today, taking the nation’s toll to 707.
Three deaths were reported in Selangor, two in Perak and one each in Sabah and Sarawak.
All seven victims, comprising five males and two females, were Malaysians.
Six of the seven victims had underlying medical conditions, while the youngest victim reported today, aged 55, had no past medical history. – January 27, 2021.
