SEVEN new coronavirus clusters were reported today which have logged a combined total of 267 cases of infection, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Three clusters were linked to the workplace, two were community clusters and one each tied to a place of worship and a detention centre cluster.
The detention centre cluster, named Tembok Bukit Besi, in Dungun, Terengganu reported seven cases today. So far 1,131 people have been screened in connection with the cluster, 99 of whom were found to be infected..
The cluster linked to a place of worship is named Keladi Saga, named after Kg Keladi and Taman Saga in Kulim, Kedah. It reported 34 cases after 49 people were screened.
In Kuala Lumpur, a workplace cluster of 26 cases was reported at a shopping mall in Jalan Cochrane, Titiwangsa. Seventy-six people were screened.
Another workplace cluster was detected at a factory in Jalan Platinum in the Pasir Gudang Industrial Park, Johor Baru. Thirty-three cases were reported after 66 people were screened.
The last of today’s new workplace clusters, called Intan Delima, is linked to an education centre in Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan. Twenty-five cases were logged after 253 people were screened.
The Jalan Padi Mahsuri community cluster in Kulai, Johor, was detected as a result of pre-employment screening.
Noor Hisham said the cases in the cluster live together. Twenty-eight close contacts were screened, 25 of whom tested positive for the virus.
The seventh new cluster, also community-linked, is Kg Bukit Putera in Setiu, Terengganu. Noor Hisham said the index case was discovered on January 13, after which 293 people were screened and 25 found to be infected.
Total clusters in the country number 753, of which 356 are active. Ninety-five of them reported new cases today.
Noor Hisham said the clusters reporting a high number of cases today were Pasai with 111 cases, followed by Seri Bayu (61) and Jalan Platinum (33). – January 26, 2021.
