COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia reached 700 today with 11 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said of the 11 victims today, one was a foreigner.
Malaysia also logged 3,585 new cases today, taking the nation’s total caseload to 190,434.
Noor Hisham said this would be the 13th straight day Malaysia has recorded more than 3,000 daily Covid-19 cases, with the streak stretching back from January 14.
He said two of the new cases were imported, while the rest were local transmissions.
“A total of 3,582 local transmissions today involved Malaysians while 529 involved foreigners,” said Noor Hisham.
He said Selangor once again recorded the highest daily cases by state with 1,295 new infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 610 and Johor with 516.
He said this would be the fifth consecutive day Selangor has logged the highest daily cases.
The director-general of health said Selangor also tops overall cases by state with 56,664 cases, followed by Sabah with 47,442 and Kuala Lumpur with 22,275.
Aside from this, he said 4,076 patients were discharged from hospital today, taking total recoveries to 149,160.
Noor Hisham said active cases in the country now stand at 40,574.
A total of 280 are being treated in intensive care, with 111 needing respiratory support. – January 26, 2021.
