THE Health Ministry has identified 13 new Covid-19 clusters, taking the total number of clusters in the country to 746, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The director-general of health said eight of the new clusters were related to the workplace, three of them in Selangor, two in Johor and one each in Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and Terengganu.
He said the new clusters combined contributed 283 cases to the daily tally.
In Selangor, a factory in Taman Sri Muda in Klang reported 35 cases after 304 people were screened.
Another factory in Klang, in Taman Waja, logged 33 cases after 1,076 people were screened.
The third workplace cluster in Selangor is linked to an educational institution in Sg Chemubong, Gombak. Thirteen people were found to be infected after 304 people were screened.
In Johor, all the employees in a company were found to be infected, in Jalan Indah, Johor Baru. Eleven workers were screened and all of them were found to be Covid-19 positive.
Also in Johor Baru, a factory in Tebrau Industrial Park yielded 15 cases after 160 people were screened.
In Sabah, 22 cases were reported after 51 people were screened at a factory in Jalan Apas, Tawau.
The sole workplace cluster in Kuala Lumpur is in Jalan Kerinchi, which was spread among cleaners assigned to work at several companies in Lembah Pantai and Titiwangsa. Fourteen cases were detected and 87 individuals screened.
The Terengganu workplace cluster stemmed from a meeting in Kg Tualang and has spread to Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Neras. Close contact tracing saw 96 people screened, 32 of whom were found to be infected.
Meanwhile, a social event in Kg Muhibbah, Pengerang led to the formation of a new cluster in Kota Tinggi, Johor. Nineteen cases were discovered after 61 people were screened.
In Pahang, 19 flood relief workers tested positive for the virus among 69 screened, in Taman Bahagia, Temerloh.
Another cluster in the state, also in Temerloh, took place in Kampung Bukit Lada. To date, 50 people have been screened and 14 have tested positive.
In Malacca, the Bukit Palah cluster in Malacca Tengah and Jasin was identified as high-risk. A patient and a hospital worker in Malacca Hospital were among the 38 cases detected in the cluster after 171 people were screened.
The last of today’s new clusters is in Kg Pahi, also classed high-risk, was in Kuala Krai, Kelantan Cleaners were also involved in this cluster, at Hospital Sultan Ismail Petra. Forty-four people were screened and 18 reported positive for Covid-19.
Malaysia’s active clusters now stand at 351, among a total 746 clusters. Eighty-four of the active clusters recorded new cases today.
The Jalan Seroja cluster reported 81 cases, followed by Pasai (56) and Beringin (48). – January 25, 2021.
