New virus cases top 3,000 12 days in a row

MALAYSIA today logged 3,048 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24-hours, taking the country’s caseload to 186,849, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

This is the 12th consecutive day new cases top 3,000, hitting a record 4,275 on January 23. 

Noor Hisham said all the new cases save eight were local transmissions.

For the fourth straight day, Selangor was the biggest contributor to the nation’s tally, with 1,035 cases, followed by Johor with 529 and Sabah, 348. 

There were no new cases reported in Labuan today.

Noor Hisham said 3,638 patients were discharged from hospital today, taking total recoveries to 145,084, or 77.7% of cases.

He said there were 41,076 active cases, 261 of which were in intensive care and 101 of them on respiratory support.

Eleven deaths were reported over the last 24 hours, taking the virus toll to 689.  – January 25, 2021. 

Three of the fatalities occurred in Sabah, two each in Selangor and Sarawak, and one each in Kelantan, Pahang, Perak and Kuala Lumpur.

Nine of them were men. and 10 of them Malaysian. The sole foreigner who died was aged 60 whose medical history is unknown. – January 25, 2021.
