16 new Covid-19 clusters for the second day in a row

MALAYSIA today reported 16 new Covid-19 clusters for the second consecutive day – one of which is linked to a religious gathering.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of active clusters of infection in the country now stands at 327.

Noor Hisham said the Taman Sejahtera cluster – linked to a religious activity in a private institute in Taman Sejahtera Utama, Kampar, Perak – reported 35 cases.

Health authorities also discovered a cluster of 29 cases at an old folks home in Jalan Mak Mandin Dua, Penang. The Mandin Jaya cluster went on to infect residents and caretakers of the home.

Meanwhile, eleven of the 16 clusters reported today were linked to workplaces.

Among them were the KL Wholesale Market 2 cluster, which was detected at the wholesale market in Selayang. This cluster reported 20 cases thus far.

Johor reported three workplaces clusters namely Seri Bayu with six cases, Tampoi Tujuh (15) and Jalan Sempadan (35).

Other workplace clusters reported today were Jalan Terolak in Kuala Lumpur (16 cases), Jalan Canang  Emas (13) in Selangor, Kota Muhibbah (15) and Jalan Slim (26) in Perak, Silimpopon (29) and Ladang Sebrang (21) in Sabah and Orion (9) in Kedah.

Apart from that, other non-workplace clusters reported today were Gunung Raya in Langkawi and Kg Tanah Merah in Besut, Terengganu.

Gunung Raya saw 11 cases while Kg Tanah Merah registered 15 infections.

Noor Hisham also declared the end of seven clusters.

The seven clusters were Kaya, Enggor, Perdana 6, Jalan College, Jalan Lapan as well as the Jalan Tun and Darul construction site clusters. – January 21, 2021.
