KL tops Covid-19 daily tally with 576 cases

Kuala Lumpur accounts for 576 of the 3,170 new Covid-19 cases reported in the past 24 hours, the most out of any state. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Afif Abd Halim, January 21, 2021.

MALAYSIA today reported 3,170 new Covid-19 infections, with Kuala Lumpur leading the daily tally, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Noor Hisham said the fresh cases have brought the total caseload to 172,548 while active cases stood at 41,755.

He said Kuala Lumpur topped the tally with 576 cases, followed by Selangor and Johor with 545 and 423 cases respectively.

Prison and detention centers, on the other hand, contributed 26 cases.

Noor Hisham said 12 deaths were reported today, raising the national death toll to 642.

Johor saw the most number of fatalities at four, followed by Selangor (3), Sabah (2) and one each in Perak, Sarawak and Negri Sembilan.

On recoveries, Noor Hisham said 2,490 people were discharged from hospitals after recovering in the past 24 hours.

With this, he said the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus now stands at 130,152.

Meanwhile, 260 patients are currently warded in the intensive care unit, of whom 103 require respiratory support. – January 21, 2021.
