THE Health Ministry detected a total of 16 new Covid-19 clusters today, a new single-day high since the onset of the pandemic.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the clusters detected today bring the national tally to 685, of which 318 are still active.
Noor Hisham said 11 of the 16 clusters reported today involved workplaces.
A total of 387 cases were recorded from the clusters today, with 281 from the workplace clusters.
The first workplace cluster reported today is Jalan Abdul Aziz construction site cluster in the Petaling district of Selangor.
Noor Hisham said from 172 people screened, 56 tested positive for the virus.
The second workplace cluster was detected in Klang, Selangor, named Bestari Rantau.
This cluster involves a factory in Taman Bestari, Rantau Panjang, Klang and as of today 16 out of 80 screened tested positive for the virus.
The third workplace cluster is Jalan Sejahtera, detected in the district of Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur.
This cluster involves a supermarket and to date, 15 positive cases have been confirmed from 93 individuals screened.
Noor Hisham said another workplace related cluster is Jalan Digital construction site, spreading over the district of Kulai in Johor and Hulu Terengganu in Terengganu.
This cluster involves workers at a construction in Kulai Industrial Park, Bukit Batu, Kulai and from 120 screened, 48 were positive for Covid-19.
The fifth workplace cluster is Tampoi Lima, detected in Johor Baru, Johor.
A total of 26 people were confirmed positive out of 53 screened at this company, located at Jalan Tampoi Industrial area, Johor.
The next workplace cluster, Jalan Seroja was also detected in Johor, in the district of Kulai.
This cluster involves workers at a factory who live in Jalan Pekeliling Seroja, I-Park Industrial area, Bandar Indahpura, Kulai.
As of today, 881 individuals were screened, with 10 returning positive.
The seventh workplace cluster reported was Jalan KKIP Selatan, which involves the Kota Kinabalu district in Sabah.
From a total of 125 screened, 14 tested positive.
The eighth workplace cluster detected today is Sg Ibor cluster in Rembau, Negri Sembilan.
The director-general said this cluster involves a public training institute in Kg Sg Ibor, Pedas.
As of today, 138 individuals have been screened and 12 of them tested positive for the virus.
The next workplace related cluster is Persiaran Tasek involving Batang Padang, Kinta and Kuala Kangsar districts in Perak.
Noor Hisham said this cluster involves workers in a factory at Persiaran Tasek, Tasek Industrial Estate, Ipoh.
A total of 181 people were screened to date, with 20 of them testing positive.
The 10th workplace cluster reported today was Bukit Sebukor construction site in the district of Malacca Tengah, Malacca.
Twenty-eight out of of 113 screened tested positive for Covid-19.
The final workplace cluster detected today is Jalan Usaha, also reported in Malacca, which involves Malacca Tengah, Alor Gajah and Jasin.
As of today, 36 of 196 screened were found Covid-19-positive.
Beside the workplace cluster, the other five clusters reported today are Bukit Gelugor, Sawmill Luit, Kg Batu 6, Kg Balibata and Jalan Niaga.
The Bukit Gelugor cluster was detected in Kuantan, Pahang and as of today, a total of 22 tested positive for Covid-19 from 102 people screened. \
Noor Hisham said the index case in this cluster has a travel history to Kuala Lumpur.
The Sawmill Luit cluster was also identified in Pahang, which involves the Maran and Kuantan districts.
The index case in this cluster also has a travel history to Kuala Lumpur.
Noor Hisham said 19 cases were detected out of 48 screened.
The next cluster, Kg Batu 6 Orang Asli village involves the Batang Padang district in Perak.
As of today, 41 people were screened, with 12 positive for the virus.
The Kg Balibata cluster spreads over the Beaufort and Sandakan districts in Sabah.
Noor Hisham said this cluster involves a funeral and tahlil event.
All 35 people screened in this cluster tested positive for Covid-19.
The final cluster reported today was Jalan Niaga, which spreads over the districts of Kota Tinggi and Kluang in Johor.
Ninety-one people were screened in this cluster, with 18 returning positive.
Besides this, Noor Hisham said of the 318 active clusters, 84 of them are still reporting new cases today.
The clusters that reported high cases today were Bina Muda construction site with 237 cases, Jalan Zuhrah construction site (175) and Pasai (139).
A total of three clusters came to an end today – Jalan Domis, Tinusa and Delima.
The total number of clusters that have ended as of today is 367. – January 20, 2021.
