MALAYSIA recorded 3,631 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24-hours, taking the number of people being treated for the virus to almost 40,000.
This is the sixth day that the nation has recorded more than 3,000 cases, as the country’s case tally reaches 165,371.
Director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the new cases, 3,624 are local transmissions and 7 are imported cases.
Selangor for the 12th day is the state that recorded the most cases with 1,199, followed by Sabah with 526 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 521 cases.
“Of the cases in Selangor, 884 or 73.7% cases were reported from clusters and contact tracing,” Noor Hisham said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
Selangor has recorded 49,245 cases, followed by Sabah with 44,602 and Kuala Lumpur with 18,898.
Malaysia today recorded 2,944 recoveries, while 3,9464 people are still infected with the virus.
Of those ill, 238 are in intensive care, with 96 needing breathing assistance.
Fourteen deaths were reported today, taking the Covid-19 death toll to 619.
Half of today’s deaths were recorded in Selangor, two in Johor, and one each in Perak, Kedah, Kelantan, Sarawak and Labuan.
Ten of the victims were men and the other four women. All of them had underlying medical conditions.
Among the fatalities, two were foreigners, both aged 60. – January 19, 2021.
