CRITICS of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi have ramped up their attacks against him on social media, offering 30 reasons he should quit.

The latest is a document, titled 30 dalil mengapa Zahid perlu letak jawatan sebagai president Umno (30 reasons Zahid should quit as Umno president), circulating on WhatsApp and outlining Zahid’s failure as party chief.

The Malaysian Insight has reached out to Zahid for comment.

Among the reasons is the former deputy prime minister’s 87 charges in court and a liability to Umno as the party cannot name him as a prime minister candidate.

Another allegation is Zahid’s lie after writing a letter to Istana Negara to withdraw support for Perikatan Nasional and caught lying about the deputy prime minister issue.

Zahid allegedly does not have the support of more than 60% of Umno members and jeopardised the party by working together with the likes of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and DAP.

He is also blamed for the Sabah elections and the mass defection of Umno MPs to Bersatu after the 14th general election.

The document also labels the Bagan Datuk MP the “weakest president in Umno’s history” and “the real traitor of Umno”.

Grassroots members are also urging him to step down for failing to lead the party.

This is not the first time such calls are made as Zahid was urged to relinquish the post in June 2018 around the time its lawmakers quit to join Bersatu.

Two division youth chiefs were recently quoted by Utusan Malaysia as saying that Zahid should go on leave immediately.

Zahid is currently facing 47 charges, including criminal breach of trust, money-laundering and corruption.

He is also accused of supporting Anwar’s bid to form a government with DAP and oust Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s PN government.

Former Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa recently confirmed that a letter from Zahid in support of Anwar, which was presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and circulated in mid-October, was authentic. – January 19, 2021.
