5 straight days of more than 3,000 daily Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA reported 3,306 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, taking the nation’s caseload to 161,740. 

This is the fifth consecutive day Malaysia has reported more than 3,000 daily cases. 

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 3,299 of the new cases were local transmissions, while seven are imported. 

For the 11th straight day, Selangor recorded the highest cases by state with 1,213 infections, followed by Sabah with 432 and Johor with 329. 

Selangor now has recorded a total of 48,046 cases since the onset of the pandemic, while Sabah has 44,076. 

Johor has so far recorded 13,701 cases. 

Today’s new infections bring the active case count in the country to 38,791.

A total of 226 patients are treated in intensive care, with 94 of them requiring breathing assistance.

Malaysia also reported 2,293 recoveries today, bringing the total to 122,344. 

Four deaths were also reported today, taking the toll of fatalities to 605.

Two deaths were recorded in Selangor, and one each in Sabah and Terengganu. 

Of the victims, three were male and one female. All had underlying medical conditions. 

The oldest victim today was aged 91. – January 18, 2021.
