10 new virus clusters, 6 at workplaces

Six out of 10 new virus clusters today are linked to workplaces, says director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, January 17, 2021.

TEN new Covid-19 clusters were identified by the Health Ministry today, of which six are related to workplaces, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

The director-general of health said 327 cases were reported from the clusters, with workplaces contributing 183.  

He said the first workplace cluster is in Jalan Pandan Indah, in the Hulu Langat district, Selangor.  

Noor Hisham said a total of 77 people from 87 screened in this cluster, a factory in Jalan Pandan Indah, Kuala Lumpur were found to be positive for Covid-19.  

He said the second workplace cluster is Jalan Mawila, which was detected in the district of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. 

Noor Hisham said the cluster’s index case is an army personnel in Wisma Pelayar Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia.  

As of today, he said 130 people were screened and of them 15 tested positive for the virus.  

He said the third workplace cluster is Jalan Perak, found in Johor Baru, Johor. 

Noor Hisham said this cluster involves a factory in the Pasir Gudang Industrial Park and as of today, 35 positive cases were reported out of 504 screened.

He said the next workplace cluster is Jalan Menerung, which involves the Lembah Pantai district in Kuala Lumpur.  

Noor Hisham said this cluster was detected among security personnel at Apartment One Menerung, Jalan Menerung, Bangsar.  

He said 26 individuals were screened, with 23 testing positive. 

He said the fifth workplace cluster is Jalan Yap construction site, detected in Titiwangsa district, Kuala Lumpur.  

Noor Hisham said 21 people tested positive for the virus out of 47 screened.  

The final workplace cluster detected today is Jalan Mohammed Salleh in Labuan.  

Noor Hisham said the index patient had a travel history to Sabah. 

As of today, 423 people were screened, with 12 testing positive for Covid-19. 

Besides the workplace clusters, other clusters reported today were DTI Sepang 2, Taman Ikan Jinak, Rantau Lada and Pantai Peringgit.  

The director-general of health said the DTI Sepang 2 involves an immigration detention centre in Sepang, Selangor.  

He said from 238 screened, 80 returned positive. 

Next is the Taman Ikan Jinak cluster, which spread over the districts of Tuaran and Kota Belud in Sabah.  

Noor Hisham said this cluster involves a family gathering and as of today, 46 people have been screened and 21 tested positive for the virus.  

The Rantau Lada cluster was detected in Pahang, spreading over the districts of Temerloh and Maran.  

He said the index case in this case had a travel history to Selangor.  

He said 58 people were screened and 19 tested positive.  

Noor Hisham said the Pantai Peringgit cluster involves the Malacca Tengah and Jasin districts in Malacca.  

From 128 people screened in this cluster, 24 reported positive for Covid-19.  

The 10 new clusters bring the total clusters in the country to 651, of which 292 are active. 

A total of 86 of the 292 active clusters reported new cases today.  

Clusters reporting the highest cases today were Bina Lebuh construction site with 253 cases, Jalan Rantau-Siliau (96) and Jalan Harapan Prison (94).  

Three clusters have ended today and they are Bayam Indah, Jesselton construction site and Andalas. – January 17, 2021.
