THE worst is yet to come if the second movement-control order (MCO 2.0) fails to bring down the Covid-19 infection in the country, cautioned Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“If we do not get this MCO right, the worst is yet to come. A daily reminder to all to “please stay at home”. Stay home and stay safe,” the health director-general wrote in a tweet today.

His tweet came just hours after Malaysia reported its highest ever daily Covid-19 cases today.

The country broke all previous records to report 4,029 new infections in the past 24 hours.

This is also the first time it has reported more than 4,000 new cases in a single day since the onset of the pandemic last year.

Noor Hisham said in a statement earlier today that the fresh cases have brought the caseload to 155,095 while active cases rose to 37,126.

He said only eight of today’s cases were imported.

On recoveries, Noor Hisham said 2,148 people were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours.

With this, he said the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus now stood at 117,375.

There were eight fatalities reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 594. – January 16, 2021.
