6 new virus clusters, one linked to a wedding

MALAYSIA today reported six new clusters, of which one was linked to a wedding reception.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said with this, the total number of active clusters of infection in the country now stood at 285.

The Kg Lebu cluster in Bentong and Kuantan, Pahang was discovered following a wedding reception and tahlil ceremony. 

Close contact screening conducted on the family of the newlyweds and guests after the index patient tested positive on January 5, led to the detection of 20 more cases. A total of 80 people were screened for this cluster. 

The country also reported three workplace clusters today.

Senai Cyber in Kulai, Johor reported the most number of cases, after a few factories at the Senai Industrial Estate 3 collectively reported 114 infections. The cases were detected through targeted screening exercises at the respective premises. 

Similarly, the Jalan Permata cluster at the Arab Malaysian Industrial Park in Nilai, Negri Sembilan registered 61 cases.

The Jalan Sembrong cluster in Kluang, Johor on the other hand, reported 18 cases.

The other two clusters reported today were Tembok Nanas immigration detention centre, which reported 41 cases and Taman Juta in Hilir Perak (14), traced to a symptomatic index patient. 

Noor Hisham also declared the end of five other clusters. These are Impian, Utama Rini, Kuala, Malawati and Bina Bulatan construction sites. – January 16, 2021.
