Kelantan latest state under MCO, says senior minister

KELANTAN is the latest state to be placed under the strict movement control order (MCO) after recording a high number of Covid-19 positive cases, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The defence minister said the state will be under MCO for two weeks from January 16 to January 29.

“Cumulative cases are 1,649. About 80 to 100 cases are reported daily in Kelantan.

“Active cases rose from 328 to 891, and 90% of the districts in Kelantan are now in red and yellow zones,” he said.

Kelantan was previously under the laxer conditional MCO.

On Monday, the Perikatan Nasional government announced an MCO on six states – Penang, Selangor, Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan), Malacca, Johor and Sabah – from January 13 to 26.

It also announced the CMCO on Pahang, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Kedah and Terengganu while Perlis and Sarawak, which have the fewest active Covid-19 cases currently, will remain in the recovery MCO phase.

The next day, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah assented to Putrajaya’s request to declare a state of emergency till August 1. – January 15, 2021.
