7 new Covid-19 clusters, 4 linked to workplaces

MALAYSIA today reported seven new clusters, four of which were linked to workplaces.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said with this the total number of active clusters of infection in the country now stood at 276.

The Jalan Selayang cluster, linked to a supermarket in Gombak, Selangor, reported 84 cases.

The second workplace cluster reported today, known as Pasir Barat In Johor Baru and Kota Tinggi, saw 92 cases. The cluster was discovered following a targeted screening exercise at a project site in Pasir Gudang.

In Kuala Lumpur, the Bina Dutamas construction site cluster in Kepong reported 18 cases.

Rantau Silau, which is the fourth workplace cluster reported today, was detected after a targeted screening exercise at a factory in Port Dickson. The cluster has so far reported 96 cases.

As for non-workplace clusters, Tropika, which went on to infect 55 people in Johor, was found after a targeted screening exercise at a detention centre.

Meanwhile, Intan Emas in Perak and the Jalan Pahang in Kuala Lumpur were traced to an index patient who was symptomatic.

Intan Emas reported 15 cases while Jalan Pahang saw six cases scattered across the Kepong, Titiwangsa, Lembah Pantai and Cheras districts. – January 14, 2021.
