New record of 3,337 Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA has once again set a new record high of daily Covid-19 cases after reporting 3,337 infections in the past 24 hours.

This comes just two days after the previous record of 3,309 cases.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today that the fresh cases have brought the caseload to 147,855, while active cases stood at 33,989.

The country also reported 15 deaths today, which is also the second highest since the onset of the pandemic.

The 15 fatalities have brought the death toll to 578.

Selangor once again led the tally with 1,036 cases followed by Johor and Sabah with 460 and 389 infections respectively.

Only seven of today’s cases were imported.

On recoveries, Noor Hisham said 1,710 people were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours.

With this, the total number of recoveries from the coronavirus now stands at 113,288.

Meanwhile, 195 patients are currently warded in the intensive care unit, of whom 86 require respiratory support.

Prison and construction site clusters, on the other hand, reported 153 cases.

The youngest person to succumb to the coronavirus was a 27-year-old woman who suffered from lupus, while the oldest was a 91-year-old woman who had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic lung problems and blindness.

Both deaths were reported in Sabah. – January 14, 2021.
