Malaysia records 2,985 new Covid-19 cases

MALAYSIA today recorded 2,985 new Covid-19 cases, with the bulk of infections coming from Selangor, Sabah and Johor – all states under the new movement-control order. 

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor reported the highest new daily cases of 837.

“Of these, 605 were from clusters and Covid-19 close contact screening conducted in the field. 

“This was followed by Johor with 535 cases and Sabah with 450,” he said in Putrajaya today. 

He also said the country has recorded four deaths today, bringing the toll of fatalities to 563.

Noor Hisham said 944 patients were discharged in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative recoveries to 111,578.

He said the total number of cases in Malaysia is now 144,518, with 32,377 of them active.

“Of the total new cases, there are two imported cases while local infections are 2,983 cases. 

“Of the domestic transmissions, 2,109 cases are Malaysian and 874 are foreigners.”

There are now 197 patients in intensive care, of which 79 cases require respiratory assistance. – January 13, 2021.
