THE country recorded 2,451 new Covid-19 cases today and five deaths, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said Selangor recorded the highest daily cases today, accounting for 564 cases.
Noor Hisham said the state’s total number of infections now stands at 38,997, followed by Sabah with 409 cases and Negeri Sembilan (351).
He said out of today’s tally as many 327 cases were related to clusters in prisons, immigration detention centres, and lockups.
Meanwhile, total recoveries are currently at 106,832 with 1,401 recovery cases recorded in the past 24 hours.
Two of the deaths were recorded in Klang Valley, while the other three deaths were recorded in Johor.
All five deaths were men ranging from the age of 60 to 87, and all of the deceased had a history of medical conditions.
To date, there are 177 Covid-19 positive cases treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), of which 82 cases need respiratory assistance – January 9, 2021.
