FIVE of the six new Covid-19 clusters detected today were from the Klang Valley, said the Health Ministry (MOH).
Of the new clusters, four were workplace clusters while two were detected from other health screenings and close contact tracing.
Among the new clusters, the largest was the Jalan Klinik cluster which saw 132 new cases from 448 individuals screened.
According to MOH, the cluster, from Klang, Selangor was detected from targeted screening at a factory.
The other clusters in Klang Valley were Kapital (72 new cases), Bukit Belimbing (33), Tapak Bina Hevea (30), and Setapak Indah (16).
Together, Selangor (1,086 cases) and Kuala Lumpur (282) recorded 51.7% of the total number of new cases (2,643) detected today.
Apart from Setapak Indah, all the other clusters were described as “workplace” clusters.
According to MOH, the Kapital cluster, which is located in Lembah Pantai, was detected after the index cases tested positive for Covid-19 after developing symptoms.
“As of today, 72 out of the 165 screened have tested positive,” said MOH.
Meanwhile, Bukit Belimbing and Tapak Bina Hevea were both discovered in the Petaling district in Selangor.
“Tapak Bina Hevea was detected after targeted screening at a construction site. Of the 650 people screened so far, 30 have tested positive.
“In Bukit Belimbing, 33 have tested positive for Covid-19 from a screening of 912 individuals at a company.”
The last new cluster (Setapak Indah) was discovered in Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur after the person underwent self-screening, said MOH.
“So far, 16 people have tested positive from the 43 who have been screened,” said the ministry.
The last remaining new cluster – Kauran – was found in Keningau, Sabah.
“As of today, 55 have tested positive from 423 people screened,” said MOH.
There are still 257 active clusters throughout the country. – January 8, 2021.
