7 of 9 new virus clusters in Klang Valley

SEVEN of nine new Covid-19 clusters reported today are in the Klang Valley, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

Of the nine, three were linked to the workplace and one to a detention centre. 

Noor Hisham did not say in his press statement where were the remaining clusters.

The first cluster detected in the Klang Valley is the Hartamas construction site cluster, which involves the district of Hulu Langat in Selangor. 

From a total of 205 screened at this workplace cluster, 48 positive cases were reported here. 

The second cluster in the Klang Valley was the Damai Pelangi cluster linked at a detention centre in Hulu Selangor, Selangor. 

So far 871 people have been screened in connection with the cluster, 21 of whom have reported positive. 

Noor Hisham said the third cluster in the Klang Valley was detected in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur. 

It is known as the Jalan Ipoh construction site cluster. Ninety-eight of 570 people screened in connection with the cluster tested positive for Covid-19.

The Rungkup cluster is the second one reported in Kepong,.

Noor Hisham said the first case in this cluster was reported positive for the virus on January 1 as a result of symptomatic individual screening. 

As of today, he said that from 67 people screened, 20 have tested positive. 

The next cluster in the Klang Valley is the Desa Setapak cluster, which involves the Titiwangsa district in Kuala Lumpur. 

A total of 15 cases are positive for Covid-19 in this cluster from 25 screened. 

The sixth Covid-19 cluster in the Klang Valley is the Jalan Jaya cluster in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. 

Seven individuals have tested positive among 45 screened. 

The final cluster in the Klang Valley is Ziarah Putra in Putrajaya.  Seven people were found to be infected among 29 screened in this cluster. 

In Johor, which reported the most new cases today, a cluster related to the workplace was identified in Kulai. 

A total of 190 people were screened in this cluster, of which 66 tested positive. 

The nineth cluster detected today is Keranji Tabuan in Kuching, Sarawak.  So far, six people have tested positive for the virus among 54 individuals screened. 

The nine new clusters today contributed 288 cases. 

Meanwhile, the clusters with the most new cases today are Bukit Pasir in Johor with 779 cases, Dataran Utas cluster in Selangor (156) and Beringin cluster in Penang (101).

There are now 570 clusters in the country, 254 of which are classed active, 52 of them reporting daily new cases. 

Seven clusters were resolved today. They are Cempaka , Hilir, Karamunting, Lengkuk, Prestij, Sutera, and Sungai Udang. – January 7, 2021.
