At 1,103, Johor has most Covid-19 cases today

JOHOR replaced Selangor today as the state with the highest number of daily Covid-19 infections, accounting for 1,103 out of the country’s record high of 3,027 cases.

Johor’s tally today is 36.4% of today’s total cases. The state’s total number of infections now stands at 9,002 cases.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 1,043 of Johor’s cases are related to clusters and were detected upon active close contact tracing,

Johor last reported the highest number of daily cases by state on December 30, when it recorded 607 cases.

After that, Selangor had been reporting the highest number of cases among states until today.

Today, Selangor fell to second place today when the state reported 706 cases (23.3%), followed by Sabah with 493 cases (16.3%).

Malaysia today reported a record 3,027 new Covid-19 infections, just 24-hours after it reported the highest case in the nation yesterday with 2,593 cases.

Cumulatively, Sabah still leads the charts, with the Bornean state reporting 39,453 since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, followed by Selangor with 37,347 cases and Kuala Lumpur with 15,258 cases.

Today’s deaths numbered eight people, raising the number of total fatalities to 521.

Three deaths were reported in Selangor and one each in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Sabah.

Seven of the victims had underlying medical conditions, with the oldest victim being 83-years-old and the youngest being 38.

There are currently 25,221 active Covid-19 cases whereby 142 are in intensive care units (ICU) and 63 require intubation.

Total recoveries are currently at 102,723, or nearly 80% of total cases. – January 7, 2021.
