THE Health Ministry has detected 11 new clusters, of which seven are related to workplaces, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said a total of 371 cases were recorded from the clusters, where the workplace related clusters alone contributed to 329 cases.
He said this meant 88.7% of today’s cases detected from clusters are related to workplaces.
He said the Jalan Payar cluster in Petaling district, Selangor was the first workplace cluster recorded.
Noor Hisham said 68 people were reported positive for Covid-19 from 180 individuals screened.
The second workplace cluster, he said, is Sri Suria, also detected in the district of Petaling, Selangor.
As of today, he said 16 positive cases have been reported here from 258 people screened.
The D-G said the third workplace cluster is the Bukit Semenyih construction site cluster, detected in the Hulu Langat, Selangor.
He said from 371 people screened, 17 have thus far tested positive for the virus.
Noor Hisham said the next workplace cluster was Bukit Angkat, also detected in Hulu Langat district, Selangor.
He said 83 individuals were screened here as of today, of which the results of 25 returned as positive.
He said the fifth workplace cluster involves the Muar district in Johor. This cluster is named as Parit Jamil.
As of January 5, 612 individuals have undergone screening and 62 were found to be Covid-19 positive.
The sixth workplace cluster is Jalan Desa construction site. This cluster involves the Lembah Pantai district in Kuala Lumpur.
This construction site topped the cases from new clusters as it reported 116 Covid-19 infections from a total of 800 people screened.
Noor Hisham said the final workplace cluster is named Jalan Raja and this cluster spreads across Cheras, Titiwangsa and the Kepong districts in Lembah Pantai, Kuala Lumpur.
He said 25 cases were reported in this cluster from 125 screened.
Besides the workplace clusters, the other clusters reported today are Tombovo, Langit Selatan, Bah Sayap and Mengkuang.
He said the Tombovo cluster was detected in Putatan district in Sabah.
Noor Hisham said 18 were detected positive for the virus from 97 individuals screened.
He said the Langit Selatan cluster was detected in Kuantan, Pahang and this cluster has reported nine cases from 43 screened.
In Sarawak, he said, a cluster named Bah Sayap was detected in Miri district.
From 48 people screened, he said five tested positive for the virus in this cluster.
The final cluster reported today is the Mengkuang cluster, which spread across Marang and Kuala Nerus district in Terengganu.
Ten positive cases were reported here from a total of 150 screened.
The eleven new additional clusters have brought the total clusters in the country to 548, of which 242 are considered as active clusters and 306 clusters have ended.
Of the 242 active clusters, 53 are reporting daily new cases.
Clusters that reported high cases today are the Jalan Perindustrian cluster, which reported 200 cases, followed by the above-mentioned Jalan Desa construction site cluster (116 cases) and Beringin cluster (65 cases). – January 5, 2021.
