MCA was not consulted on the removal of Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa, the component party said today.
The ethnic Chinese party’s leadership was neither notified or consulted and had to find out via media reports, it said in a statement.
“The MCA Supreme council only knew about this through media reports and it has never been negotiated among the component parties in BN, nor has it been decided by the BN Supreme Council.
“So far, MCA has not been able to confirm the legitimacy of the news of the removal of Annuar Musa as BN Secretary General.”
MCA’s statement follows news of Annuar’s removal.
This was later confirmed by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, who replaces Annuar in the BN post.
Ahmad had also previously replaced Annuar as Umno secretary-general.
Annuar’s removal follows mounting criticism of his statements that appear to be constantly in defence of Bersatu and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government over Umno’s interests, angering other party leaders.
Last week, Annuar also rebuked Umno youth chief Asyraf Wajdi for claiming Umno will no longer negotiate with PAS for seats in the 15th general elections.
MCA said that any appointments or removal involving a coalition post can only be done by consensus of the BN supreme council, which has not called for any meeting.
“Any appointment to a position in BN, it must be made based on the BN constitution and, conventionally, this nomination must be presented and agreed by consensus in the BN Supreme Council Meeting,” MCA’s statement read.
BN now comprises Umno as the lead party, MCA, MIC and PBRS. – January 5, 2021.
