COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), such as registering on the MySejahtera app, must still be observed on flood rescue missions and at evacuation centres, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri said.

This applies to flood victims and those being evacuated. Social distancing must also be maintained at all times, even on rescue boats, he added.

“For instance, when they are in the rescue boat and are being taken to the relief centre, they have to wear masks and also maintain social distancing on the boat.

“The victims will also be given facemasks, which they have to wear at the temporary relocation centres,” he said at the daily briefing on Covid-19 movement restrictions.

Relief and relocation centres must be sanitised before flood victims can be brought here, he added.

Bad weather has affected several states in the peninsula in recent days, with flood waters sweeping areas in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak and Johor.

As of yesterday, nearly 20,000 people had been evacuated from their homes. – January 5, 2021.
