9 new Covid-19 clusters today

THE Health Ministry has detected nine new Covid-19 clusters today – five of them being workplace clusters, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

The new clusters reported a total of 373 cases, of which the five workplace clusters contributed 315 cases. 

The Perdana Avenue construction site cluster detected in the Petaling district in Selangor was the first workplace cluster discovered today. 

From a total of 783 screened, 202 positive cases were detected from this cluster.

The second workplace cluster was Osmo Jaya in Hulu Langat district, Selangor. 

A total of 188 people were screened in this cluster as of today, and 46 tested positive for the virus.

The third workplace cluster was Belati, spread over several districts in Johor – Johor Baru, Kota Tinggi, Kulai and Pontian. 

Forty-four Covid-19 cases were reported in this cluster from a total of 277 screened. 

The fourth workplace cluster was Wawasan Gading also in Johor, which involved the Batu Pahat district. 

As of today, 13 positive cases were detected out of 175 screened.

The fifth and final workplace cluster reported today was Rengit Sentral, also in Johor, cutting across the Kota Tinggi, Kluang and Johor Baru districts. 

As of now, 10 cases have been confirmed in this cluster from 141 screened. 

Besides these workplace clusters, others detected were Lintas Seraya, Manik, Paloh Tumpat and Stutong. 

The Lintas Seraya cluster involved the Kota Kinabalu and Penampang districts in Sabah, where as of today, 16 people have tested positive for the virus from 42 screened. 

Next, the Manik cluster involved the Kuala Krai district in Kelantan and Dungun in Terengganu. 

In this cluster, from 168 people screened, 22 virus cases were detected. 

The Paloh Tumpat cluster involved the Tumpat district in Kelantan and 15 cases were detected here out of 39 people screened. 

Finally, the Stutong cluster was detected in the Kuching district in Sarawak. 

A total of five positive cases were reported from 51 screened. 

With the nine new clusters, Malaysia’s total cluster numbers have increased to 532, of which 232 are still active. 

Fifty-nine of them are still reporting new virus cases.

Of the active clusters, those reporting a high number of cases today were Kebun Baru with 89 cases, followed by the Beringin (82), Jalan Harapan Prison (56) and Sg Putus (56). 

A total of six clusters have ended today, taking the total clusters that have ended to 300. 

The six clusters are Sg Cincin, Tempasuk, Jalan Tuaran, Gangsa, Plaza and Teluk. – January 3, 2021.
